"MACHINISTS DON'T BEG, WE FIGHT."

Our fighting Machinists gathered in Austin this weekend for the 2024 Texas State Council of Machinists meeting. One of the leading topics was the importance of the upcoming election(s) and why the outcome impacts every single one of our members. From the role it plays in the fate of the F-35 Program in Texas, to how Project 2025 under a Trump Administration threatens to eradicate unions and our labor rights as a whole.

GVP Craig Martin emphasized the importance of educating ourselves in our industries, and researching how the policies certain politicians want to implement, affect us, our members, and our families.

"...there are politicians who are actively working to undermine the right of working people and unions across the country. They don't want us to have unions. They don't want workers to have rights or any powers at their jobs... these politicians prioritize business interests and the wealthy over us regular folk...they want to keep us scared and begging for our jobs... BUT Y'ALL KNOW MACHINISTS DON'T BEG, WE FIGHT." - Craig Martin, GVP of the Southern Territory

Part of the fight here in the "right-to-work" state of Texas, is going up against politicians who uphold laws that favor their corporate greed and work tirelessly to maintain the economic inequality; a reminder of why state and local elections matter just as much as federal elections. In a move to counter their agenda, Texas State Council of Machinists President, Taylor Rehmet, took the liberty of announcing their endorsement of Congressman Colin Allred, who is running for the United States Senate. Brother Allred, a native Texan, has been a longtime supporter of the labor movement and they are confident that he is the right person to lead the fight for workers' rights here in the Lone Star Sate.

The meeting concluded with a message emphasizing unity, determination, and a call to action to fight to preserve our labor movement and our union.

When we are surrounded by our union siblings, it empowers us to persevere in our efforts; and in this moment in time it is crucial that we all rally together and join the effort to fight for democracy and continue advocating for equitable treatment and fair wages!
